GENERAL WASHING GUIDELINES

1. Wash mask after every use.

Masks should be washed after each use.  For example, if you’re going to the grocery store, it should be washed upon returning home and before going out next.

2. Machine Wash -Use Hot water.

When washing a face mask you want to be sure to kill any germs, so temperature matters. Set the water temperature on your washer at warmest option to remove bacteria without weakening the fabric.  Your regular laundry detergent is fine.  Using these practices will keep your mask clean, and are also gentle enough to ensure the fabric will look good and stay in great condition for longer. If the mask has a pocket that holds a removable filter, always remove the filter before washing the mask.

3. Hand-wash -Use Hot water.

If you don’t have access to a washing machine, the sink will do.  You can hand-wash a fabric mask just the way you may already hand-wash your delicates. Wet the mask with warm water and rub vigorously with soap or detergent so you have a lather, then soak the mask in hot water and soap for 30 minutes to ensure you’ve killed all the germs. Make sure to rinse thoroughly before drying.

4. Drying Your Mask

Whether machine washing or hand-washing your mask, drying it properly is just as important. Masks should dried on a rack in direct sunlight if possible.

5.  Consider buying spare masks

You should be washing your mask every time you wear it. So it might be helpful to have two or three spares you can keep in rotation, just in case you don’t have time to do laundry each day.
